REVIEWS

…WITHIN is a slow turning screw of Horror, with each new scene slowly and surely stepping up the skin crawl factor. You might just find yourself a little bit paranoid around your child’s new friend after this one.” — E.C. McMullen Jr, Feoamante.com

…Within is never dull. Its well-paced story holds our interest, and even manages to surprise despite its familiar conceit. The fate of “bad seed” Michelle is also unexpected; a surprisingly dark ending that may discomfort Hollywood studio executives who are always trying to up the “feel good” factor in films. — Thomas M. Sipos, Hollywood Investigator

…Anchored by strong performances from two child actors…“Within” (which has already played at a few festivals) marks Culpepper as a young director with some promise. — Brian Lowry, Variety

…The tension builds gradually and there are a few creepy moments in this absorbing film… the direction is good and the acting performances from the two young female leads are incredible considering their tender years… highly entertaining, supernatural fun… the action is absorbing because it is well paced, nicely directed and features some impressive turns from a cast of unfamiliar talent. The two lead girls are excellent… we are treated to a well made production which never outreaches the budget… Within is the best horror movie to come through my door in months. — Simon Hill, Eat Horror

…I get back to the fest for WITHIN, the winner of “Outstanding Feature Film,” and rightfully so. Written by Rebecca Sonnenshine (THE HAUNTING OF MOLLY HARTLEY, AMERICAN ZOMBIE) and directed by Hanelle M. Culpepper, WITHIN features two of the best child performances I’ve seen in ages by Sammi Hanratty (Young Chuck on PUSHING DAISIES) and Mia Ford. — Sean Abley, Fangoria.com

Hanelle M. Culpepper, who is directing a feature for the first time, weaves a tight and scary tale. Working with children can be difficult and this cast is full of fourth graders. Culpepper keeps the story on track and moving in the ‘scary’ direction… Take Saturday night off, get some of your favorite snacks and watch this scary good film. It’s a treat with an evil twist. — Terra King, Las Vegas Movie/TV/DVD Examiner
