In early April of 1999, I was fascinated to find out that people had already started lining up for the late May release of Star Wars Episode I. I grabbed my DV camera and set off to interview the fans in line. The equipment they had at their disposal as well as the organized nature of the line was intriguing. I also discovered there was a mini-war between the Hollywood line and the Westwood line. I decided to call my documentary “Under the Stars War” and focus on that conflict. Before I could finish my documentary, a feature on the same subject was released. So I decided to reformat my story and make it like a 1950s educational film and “How to Stand in Line for Star Wars” was born.
